In this interactive program, students will learn how to form their own opinions, speak to each other peacefully with differing opinions, practice empathy, and regulate their nerves before speaking in a room. The art of speech and debate also addresses how to formulate speeches, rebuttals, and their importance in a mock trial. Students will learn mindfulness with the breath and how to use the diaphragm. We will play interactive games while learning key concepts like perspective.

One common debate that Kindergartners and 1st graders may have is: should schools allow kids to have different desk options like standing, bean bags, or sitting on the floor?

This is an after-school enrichment program that is not meant to feel like another class in their busy school day. Many of my students build their skills in my section and re-enroll from term to term. I have also witnessed the shyest of students become the most enthusiastic about public speaking with time.
