Class Description
For students who know how all the pieces move, with basic knowledge
of checks and checkmates. Preparation to participate in a Chess
tournament, possibly as a school team. US Chess membership optional. The course will include:
- Review the rules of the game
- Review of coordinates/notation
- Review of value of pieces
- Capturing and protecting
- Checks, checkmates and stalemates
- Beat robots 1 to 5
- DCK (Opening strategy)
- 3 Special moves in chess
- Basic tactics in Chess (Pins, forks and double attacks)
- Defenses and defensive maneuvers
- Basic middlegame and endgame
