Students will learn about simple song structures, how to write chord progressions in key, and how to craft melodies that go with their chord progressions. We will also deconstruct songs in different genres. If the required equipment is available (computers or ipads equipped with Garageband or a similar app) we will learn how to arrange a song for a full band, with drum and bass parts, and any other number of instruments.

This course is for students who are already competent on an instrument, ideally guitar or piano, and who want to try writing their own music.
